At the end of the day, AI can be a powerful assistant to the assistant.
What Automation and Efficiency Tools Can’t Replace
AI can schedule the meeting. It can’t tell you that the CFO is running late because of a personal emergency, or that now’s not the best time to reschedule with the Board. AI can prioritize by rules. But it can’t weigh nuance or context. It doesn’t know when to bend the rules, when to push back gently, or when to jump into action without being prompted.
And it certainly can’t build trust.
Only a seasoned, emotionally intelligent, highly skilled EA can manage those complexities with grace, professionalism, and strategic foresight.
A Note to Managers: Invest in People, Not Just Platforms
If you manage Executive Assistants or Administrative professionals, here’s one of the most important things you can do: reassure your team that investments in new technology are not a threat to their jobs, but instead a way to elevate their roles.
These are professionals who have built careers on adaptability, resilience, and service. When introducing new platforms or AI tools, be intentional about how you message the change. Position tech as a resource; not a replacement. Provide training. Encourage experimentation. Celebrate wins when new tools improve workflows.
And most importantly, make it clear that your team’s critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and ability to manage personalities will always be irreplaceable.
