Technical Designer (Men's)
Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Men's Tech Designer to join their team in New York. This position will focus on the Outerwear, Swim, Sports, and Activewear categories, playing a pivotal role in transforming creative concepts into fully realized products. As a Tech Designer, you will be responsible for creating detailed technical specifications, ensuring precise garment fit and construction, developing production tech packs, including BOM and product packaging, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to bring high-quality apparel to life. You will ensure that all designs align with quality standards and brand aesthetics while delivering innovative solutions in design and construction.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Specifications: Develop and maintain comprehensive technical packages (tech packs) for Men's products across Outerwear, Swim, Sports, and activewear categories, including detailed sketches, measurements, construction methods, packaging (care/content labels, carton markings, fold/hanger pack, UPC codes, etc.), and grading for each style.
- Garment Fitting and Adjustments: Conduct and oversee fit sessions on live models; assess and communicate fit adjustments needed to maintain the integrity of the design while enhancing comfort, style, and functionality for each category.
- Sample Review: Collaborate with pattern makers and manufacturers to review prototypes and pre-production samples, ensuring they meet fit, quality, and design standards.
- Problem Solving: Troubleshoot design and construction issues during product development stages, providing innovative solutions to meet both aesthetic and functional goals.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with design, product development, and production teams to ensure that all designs align with brand standards, timelines, and cost parameters.
- Pattern and Fabric Knowledge: Utilize expertise in fabrics, trims, and construction techniques specific to Outerwear, Swim, Sports, and Activewear to develop design details that align with the intended purpose of each garment.
- Quality Control: Assist in creating and enforcing quality standards to ensure each product meets the company’s standards for durability, comfort, and style.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5+ years of experience in technical design within the apparel industry, handling Men's products, specifically Outerwear, Swim, Sports, and
- Activewear categories. Experience with performance-driven materials and construction techniques is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, CAD software, and knowledge of garment construction, pattern-making, and fit analysis for Men’s fashion, particularly within the aforementioned categories.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in measurement, grading, and construction methods.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach to troubleshooting design and construction challenges.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing priorities, and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
