Design Director/Merchandiser

Our client, a Juniors & Missy Sportswear company, is seeking a Design Director/Merchandiser to join their team in New York! This position is full time in office.

Compensation: $130,000-$200,000 depending on experience

Responsibilities:‍

• Lead the design team in creating seasonal collections that align with market trends, brand identity, and company objectives.
• Oversee the entire product development process, ensuring high-quality execution from concept to production while meeting budget and timeline goals.
• Develop product assortments and merchandising strategies that support sales goals and market positioning.
• Collaborate with sales teams to analyze customer feedback and sales data, adjusting designs and product offerings to optimize profitability.
• Maintain consistency in brand vision across all collections and product categories.
• Build and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and retail partners to ensure efficient production and timely deliveries.
• Negotiate costs and lead times to improve profitability and streamline operations.
• Mentor and manage the design team, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field preferred.
• At least 7 years of experience in fashion design and merchandising, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
• Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in women’s fashion design, trend forecasting, and product development.
• Extensive knowledge of fashion trends, fabrics, garment construction, and design software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CAD).
• Proven ability to develop effective merchandising strategies that drive sales.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organizational abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Passion for fashion and a deep understanding of modern consumer preferences.
